Access for All is working to help ensure all patients have access to much-needed medications by removing barriers that discriminate against patients living with rare conditions or chronic disease. This includes urging policymakers to broaden patient access writ large—whether that be in private insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid, or other patient-support programs. We staunchly support cutting through bureaucratic red tape that delays or denies care and serve as a trusted resource for insurers, government agencies, and policymakers working to improve the lives of the patients they serve. For us, access isn’t optional—it’s foundational to better health outcomes and a more compassionate, effective healthcare system.

About Us

Access for All is a Survivors for Solutions campaign aimed at protecting access for patients in need. As any patient struggling with a disease—particularly a rare, chronic, or life-threatening illness—knows firsthand, access barriers are the chief obstacle to healthcare in this country.

John “CZ” Czwartacki, founder of Survivors for Solutions, has dealt with access issues throughout the over thirty years he’s been living with multiple sclerosis (MS). Moreover, as a public policy veteran, CZ can also speak to the impacts various policies have on patient access.

At the time of his diagnosis, there was not a single drug treatment available to slow his disease’s progression. Thankfully, innovation has kept pace with the progression of his disease, and he has relied on four different breakthrough treatments throughout his lifetime. Access to these treatments has allowed CZ to have a fulfilling professional career, get married, and start a family, and it has provided him with the quality of life he has today.

Today, CZ is committed to ensuring every patient has access to the treatment or cure they need to fight their disease, no matter how hopeless it seems. Access for All is a project of Survivors for Solutions, a patient advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the medical innovation that delivers these breakthrough treatments to patients in need.

Areas to Tackle

Prevention: Diagnostic tools and therapies—when paired with healthy lifestyle choices—are some of our most effective defenses against chronic disease. But their impact is only as strong as a patient's ability to access them. That’s why policies that expand access and remove needless barriers aren’t just helpful—they’re essential.

Prior Authorization: Many health plans require prior approvals before they cover treatments. This inhibits access and leads to delays or denials that disproportionately impact chronically ill patients.

Step Therapy: Step therapy delays proper care by forcing patients to try and fail cheaper—and often less effective—treatments before approving more appropriate ones.

Copay Accumulator Programs: Copay accumulators and adjustors prevent manufacturer copay assistance from counting toward a patient’s deductible or out-of-pocket minimum. This means that patients often cannot afford their medication despite receiving financial help from a manufacturer.

Coverage with Evidence Development (CED): CED makes it more difficult for patients to access life-altering therapies by requiring Medicare patients to participate in clinical trials or registries, despite the drug already being FDA-approved. This impedes access for many patients who cannot participate due to age, disability, location, or socioeconomic barriers. It also makes it more difficult for doctors to prescribe the most appropriate treatment.

Rural and Underserved Community Barriers: Rural and underserved communities often face significant healthcare access challenges—stemming from provider shortages, long travel distances to care, and limited health infrastructure. These barriers create deep inequities, leading to delayed diagnoses, lower treatment adherence, and worse outcomes, especially for patients with chronic conditions.
